The question should be: 15-85mm or 17-55mm??

If you look below, I just went through this same question. For an APS-C camera, the 24-105mm EF does not offer much in IQ when compared to the 15-85mm EF-S. It also costs much more. The question to me was whether or not I would prefer to have a 15-24mm lens or 85-105mm. Ultimately after looking at the pictures I usually take, I realized most of my photos were in the 18-55mm range. As a result, I would either constantly be changing lenses or missing photos in the 15-24mm range. Remember it is easier to blow up an image than get a wider angle shot.

Then the question became should I buy the 17-55m EF-S 2.8 or the 15-85mm lens. Since the 15-85mm lens costs about $650 and the 17-55mm costs $1000, I went with the 15-85mm. It is arriving today!!!!! Did I make the right decision??? I don't know. But after researching this, the question was 17-55mm vs 15-85mm and not the 24-105L.

Look at your existing photo collection and analyse WHAT is most important to you??
