At least if you dont mind manual:

Just tested 55-300 with Canon TC-DC52B 1.6x

Good think can AF until 260mm + TC (ca 400mm) but at the longest FL (300mm + TC = 480mm) can not AF properly. Must do manual focus and 1-2 stop slower but the result is great, at least as sharp as native lens and without big trouble with CA . All tested handheld

At 300mm - f/5.8 - 1/500sec - Iso 100 full size

At 300mm + 1.6x TC f/5.8 1/125 - Iso 100 full size

Without TC crop 100%

With TC crop 100%

At 300mm f/5.8 - 1/800sec - Iso 100 full size

At 300mm + 1.6x TC f/5.8 1/160 - Iso 100 full size

Without TC crop 100%

With TC crop 100%

i have tested with several TCs, but the best result was with Canon TC-DC52B, to fit with lens, you will need step down ring 58-52mm

have tested also with another tcs, but either to heavy or the result was soft..

cheers
