Hopefully this issue will finally be resolved in the S110.

People have noted that the lens error (or at least a lens error) was present not just on the S100 but also it's predecessor the S95 and even the S90. My question to you all is do you think Canon will get it right for the S100 follow up?

I know some may say well the others had the same issue so I think no. Until now Canon had not stood up and admitted it there was a fault which makes me think ( hope) that they may learn from this and not make the same mistake again.

Should the RX100 come down in price further I think Canon could be in a spot of bother as people will surely look to that rather than the S100. I really hope the S100 follow up does not end up with the same issue.

As far as I know, unlike for the S100 no specific serial numbers have been identified for S90 or S95 lens errors for which Canon offers free repair. So it looks like there was a specific issue with the initial design, parts or assembly of the S100 lens (which is different from its predecessors).

I am sure they have learned from it. Does it mean all subsequent cameras will be zero defect? Of course not. The best strategy to increase one's chances of avoiding problems is to let others test any new camera and to buy not before 6 or 12 months from its launch.

Apart from the identified S100 issue and serial numbers, for the more or less brave, depending on the cost of professional repair outside of the warranty period, here are some fixes that can be tried:
