I'm always amazed that people think you are only supposed to use the "approved" cards. All cards will work if the SD card manufacturer and the camera manufacturer meet the SD standards > https://www.sdcard.org/about_sda . But in the real world with the absence of good quality control and engineering problems occur.

1.This is a case in point. The D7000 had a problem meeting the standards and they "Nikon" issued a firmware fix to correct the problem. I just went thru that.

2. even in Nikons list they don't give a specific model number. they won't either because even Sandisk card users have complained about some of their cards not working. Nikon USA is not about to open themselves to a lawsuit by either the Card manufacturer or a professional who lost revenue

It is unlikely any camera manufactuer is going to recomend a specific card manufacturer any more then they would recomend Kodak or Fuji film over Agfa or Konica. That is why Nikon says "Tested and approved" and "Other brands and capacities of cards may work, but Nikon cannot guarantee their operation. Check with the manufacturer of the third-party card for compatibility information. Nikon recommends keeping one of the approved cards available for troubleshooting."
