Who's using a D4 for amateur photography?

Why not?

Only you can justify the cost.

The only difference between an amateur and a professional is what percentage of your income is generated through photography. Has nothing to do with skills, experience, usage. And I'll bet there are some amateurs that make more than some professionals.

So if you can cost justify it based on earnings in your photography business, great. Or if you just want to do it because it will make your work better, generate more income, that's great too. Or perhaps your part time photography business is a break even, or loss, but your day job off-sets that and you can afford a D4, that's no ones business but yours.

There are even enthusiasts and hobbyests that don't make a dime off photography that have D4's because they can afford them, and want them. Some of those people have skills as good or better than some pro's.

Use it, enjoy it.
