My friend has E3 and takes it to Africa to photograph wild animals and birds.

with Olympus 2x crop factor, his fast zooms are a bit smaller than Pentax lenses with crop factor 1.5x.

That depends on the lens. The Oly 70-300 is a rebadged Sigma and is a bit larger than the Pentax 55-300mm. The Oly 50-200 is very similar in size to the Pentax 60-250.

there is no Tamron 18-270 with Pentax mount, 18-250 only available, I have one made by Tamron but with SMC Pentax coating ( and sold under Pentax DA 18-250 name) ,

it is an excellent lens , not available new any more but still available on second hand market.

I have one of those too, but excellent is an overstatement. I would call it decent.

DA 55-300 , I have and again excellent performer.

I have that one as well. I would rate it good. It will not stand up to 100% crops, and doesn't do well with a TC, unlike the DA* teles.
