And the integrated Intel HD 4000 in the current MacBook Airs is a lot faster than integrated chips used to be. On top of that the dedicated chips use back in 2009 were not all that fast. So I don't thin you'll find the difference all that big if there at all.

Aperture or Lightroom for that matter will use all the resources you can throw at them and I for one would either go for a new macbook pro or make sure you older MBP is maxed out with ram and has at least a 7200 rpm HD or an SSD.

Anyway Lightroom depend on the CPU and does not use the graphics chip anything but displaying the image.
