Thanks for the replies! I do know for a fact this copy was used with a Minolta 7D, so it will at least work on digital cameras, but I do worry about the focus motor. The A77 has the option to use slow or fast motor speed, and I suspect the former would be easier on the gears.

That said, I may just use manual focusing on this lens. I've purchased it mainly for shooting wildlife (bears, moose, etc) during my upcoming trip to Maine.

I appreciate the tip about the Tamron 70-300 USD; I already have and love that lens. Just thought the Sigma's reach would be useful.

It will be complementing the following lineup on the trip:
Tamron 70-300 USD
Tokina 11-16 f/2.8
Sony Zeiss 16-80

Anything else missing here besides a good macro lens?
