The Old lens still sells for those that like that rendering. Nano for new sales :)

imho, The Old lens still sells for those that like that rendering. Nothing wrong with that

But, A New Nano 135 f1.8 to generate new sales ... and will probably help those wanting the older version by maybe having a price drop a bit. Nikon can sell both because of the DC. New version with VRII and Nano. So, then there will be a choice.

Yes I am all for the Skin tone. But I really don't have a skin tone issue when I control it by shooting RAW anyway. Whatever I want can be adjusted in post.

For me, I would like to see some better near subject sharpness performance , then I can choose in post what and how much of the skin I want to blur away.

It will be interesting what way Nikon chooses for this lens. My guess from the recent lens ... it will be Nano , and sharp wide open.

Would love to see SLRgear 1 blur unit at f2. and a good part of the center at 1 blur unit at f1.8.

With top Res that is measurably better than the 70-200 f2.8 VRII at f4.

No it's not all about sharpness ...
but , I would like this lens to at least start with that.

More and more things can be duplicated in post , and you can control it. Sharpness is hard to get when it's not there to begin with.

Alex, +1 on the Min. Focus Distance

Something I often overlooked as important. Until I started shooting a lot more with my 70-200mm f2.8 VRII. lol

Hope this new Nikkor 135mm f1.8 VR improves on this.

hmmm, would love to see the Nikkor match up well against the Zeiss (for Sony).

I am already paying us$2,000 + us$2,400 for my most used lens. 24-70 f2.8 , 70-200mm f2.8 VRII ... which this could also be.

So, a GREAT Nano VRII with great close focus would easily be a NO Brainer BUY for Portraits (the same as the 70-200 f2.8 VRII is). Will be interesting to see how the Skin Tones match up with the old 135 DC.

imho, the 70-200mm f2.8 VRII buyers are the likely buyers of this lens as well. IF it is GREAT !

It would probably be my go to lens for Portraits, Head shots.

My guess is it would also get a lot of threads on this forum as well. Portrait shooters.

Hi, everybody!

I can say this Nikkor 135mm AF-S f/1.8 VR is most awaited lens for ME since the information about patent on this lens had appeared. Before that time I waited Nikon to renew 135mm f/2.0 - add AF-S and VR. But I hoped Nikon could make something like Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm f/1.8 ZA (for Sony), which is absolutely fantastic optically and has incredible min. focus distance - 0.72 m, which is very useful (at least for me). I wait the same marvel from Nikon!

The current Nikkor 135/2.0 DC has beautiful rendering but it is 1) highly overpriced and 2) outdated (no VR, no AF-S, stupid DC, high Longitudinal CA, sharpness could be better - for high-MP bodies).
Best regards,

Better focus distance, okay, fine nothing wrong with that. But nano coat? I think you missed the point of the 135 f/2 mate. It's not meant to be a 70-200 show every pore and make the face all contrasty. I hope they don't use it on it. If they do, it's a "general purpose lens" and not as the current lens is, a specialist portrait optic. On CA? Well, you will always get that on a fast lens. To be honest I don't give a damn about CA, I actually think it looks interesting. I like CA and I love spectrochromatism too. Bring on the purple and green fringes. If only to see another topic on here about you all complaining about the wrong things, and putting your effort into the wrong things in photography. And the focus speed? It's not going to focus fast. Think 85mm 1/4G etc, it'll be biased for accuracy. Thank god, it's not a sports lens for starters. Only my opinion of course...
