Get the 600D, it's got a much newer and better sensor (same as 7D), it has an articulated screen, and life view is a later generation. This features will all be of much better use for high magnification macro than the someone better viewfinder of the old 40D.

So, don't be mislead by the "rebel" name, the sensor here is key, and the life-view features including screen are very handy.

I just bought the new 650D for primarily macro use too. These newer cameras (including the 600D) have a much higher resolution than the older sensors. Here's a shot just taken with the 650D and MP-E 65mm (at 3x)...

Good luck,

what a capture

can i ask, do you use the LCD screen for focusing? would be a magnifying eyepiece for the viewfinder of use?
