having read the last two pages there is far too much noise for the OP

to the OP - i'm of the opinion that if your budget allows, the 5d mk 2 is your better purchase right now. the price difference new between the cameras is less than 500 dollars, prob even less used.

not only will your 50mm be a 50 instead of an 80-something, but should you need to get a wide angle for those interior gym shots you can do so relatively inexpensively (ie. you dont HAVE to get the canon 17-40, although used ones go for under $500). the viewfinder will be larger and your ability to work at the higher iso's will be a little better. you could also probably invest in the 28-105L is and not have to use any other lens for your shooting, whereas with the 7d you may need a second wider-angle lens.

the 5d mk 2 would be the better long term investment all things considered. for now ignore the bantering from people attempting to justify their purchase decisions or going on about things that aren't really going to apply to your situation. i believe that a 5d mk 2 if it's in your budget would be the better way to go. if it's not, then get the 7d and invest in more glass and some lighting. a couple of auto flash like metz 45's and some pocket wizards for relatively inexpensive, powerful and portable lighting - assuming they will let you use flash. a lot of gyms have mirrored walls or would consider it an annoyance for their other guests.

however one last thing to consider - photokina is around the corner. the 7d will be 3 years old by then and a replacement could be announced. if you aren't in a hurry, you could invest in some high quality glass and see what shakes from that.
