Re: Canon SX40HS vs Canon 550D - HD video quality

I'm not sure what exactly strike you the most about 550D video: is it shallow DOF, very clean video etc. Usually when people talk about film feel, it's about frame rate: All film is shot at 24FPS, all TV video is at 30 or 60 FPS (at least in US) and 550D can do 24FPS, I'm not sure what FPS SX 40 has.

I'll go on a limb here and say this: since 550D is more expensive and seen as more prosummer camera than SX40 I would speculate somebody shooting video with 550D on average would have more experience and would be more particular about making that video, than SX40 owner.
But let me ask you this: have you thought and looked at dedicated video cams?

I can do video with my 500D, or sx260, but if the video is what I want I grab my dedicated Sony HD video cam, without even thinking, just the viewfinder that I can see well even in full Sun, makes it all worth it.

Thank you very much for your reply!

Regarding the TV/Film feel that I mentioned in the "Budapest video", is that something that can be achieved with the SX40HS or is that what separates it from the 550D? (manual focusing and the zooming power is secondary to the quality/feel of the video)

P.s. this is an answer is intended for all three of you.

P.p.s. (Kal12, I dont need the mic for this one, even though I do understand its importance in interviews. I´m only intending doing scenery with this camera)
