Yea slave wouldn't work because nothing is causing it to flash. The flash I have works in TTL mode and was allowing me correct exposure. I guess it doesn't preflash. Thank you for your help it is much appreciated!

Yes, it cannot be TTL without a metering flash, the shutter isn’t open when the metering occurs.

Yes thank you, when I was adjusting my light output, that put the flash into manual mode. Sorry not new to photography, just lighting lol
