Re: Should I buy Canon 28mm f1.8?

I am looking for a prime lens for low light indoors. The 50mm 1.8 is very nice but it's too tight most of the time. So I'm thinking of the 28mm f1.8.

I read a lot of reviews. Some of them praise the lens, while others say it's soft and needs to be stopped down. If I stop it down, the advantage over the 15-85 will go away.

I've got the 28 f/1.8 and highly recommend it. Great as an indoor people lens, great color and contrast and fast autofocus. The biggest problem is CA which can be corrected in software.

When people say it needs to be stopped down for better sharpness (which is true) they are talking about moving to f/2.0 or f/2.2, both of which are noticeably sharper than at 1.8. Even at 1.8 the performance is fine. The 15-85 is a great lens but it is extremely slow; at 28mm it is limited to f/4.5.
