Re: Tamron 18-200 mm lens on Nex-7

I just completed a 2600 mile tour of 8 US national parks in the southwest using this combination (Nex-7 plus Tamron 18-200mm) but also using a Nikon D800E with Nikon 28-300mm camera. One of our party was shooting with the Nex and I was shooting with the Nikon. The Nex plus Tamron was very good, but the Nikon D800E was always a bit better, both in resolution, low-noise, and especially dynamic range. Dynamic range was particularly important in the bright sun to include both shadow and highlight detail. Here are the D800E images: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1021&message=41986689 The phase focussing of the Nikon was also an ocasional advantage as the Nex sometimes had trouble acquiring focus out the window of the moving car. The biggest weakness was the somewhat soft focus of both the Tamron and the Nikon at the long end. The other issue was that the brightness of the Nikon SB900 flash was not enough to light up facial shadows in the bright sun. Of course the built-in flash of the Nex was also useless for this purpose.
