Perhaps we are seeing a difference in the ways that the US and the UK operations of Canon are treating this problem. Too bad I can't find a way to force my US S100 to break before I take a once in a lifetime trip to Russia this fall. Any ideas?

Seconds after taking this photo during a vacation trip to Venice about 7 years ago, I dropped the camera ( a compact digital ). It hit the ground and became inoperable. Fortunately, it was late afternoon on the last day of a 14 day vacation.

The lesson I learned, though, was Never Travel without a Backup Camera ....
Also, Always use a wrist strap , especially with a compact *

I do own the S100 now .... and loving it , though it was one of the early releases with the BAD serial numbers and I did get LENS ERROR ....(Fixed and returned to me within 7 days and still working fine now after 4 months .....)

As a backup, I'm still keeping my S90 ( over 25,000 shots without a problem )......
My advice.....Always bring a backup ....
