Feedback on 28mm f1.8G, please

Am new to the Nikon range and starting with a D700. I would like a good landscape lens to use when I need something wide than my walk around (which is likely to be the 35-70mm f2.8) and the new 28mm f1.8 has caught my eye. The reviews suggest that it has very good resolution across the frame and surprisingly good bokeh (though I will have to experiment with using a wide angle to get an out of focus effect). Two comments arise on reliability, though on which I'd like some advice, please.

1) Has anyone had problems with focus changing at different apertures? How would one check for this and if refocusing after the aperture is chosen, does the focus shift still occur when the lens stops down to take the shot?

2) Does the plastic build cause any problems in practice?

Any other views on this lens or alternatives gratefully received.
