So your costs are $9/keeper/year

Then it depends on how many keepers one can produce with a digital camera vs a film camera per year.

If one get 100 keepers with digital, then your yearly cost in film would be $900 to get 100 keepers with film.

Note, I'm not dismissing film as a medium, but I think it will be challenging to use film in the future. Less and less film available and fewer processing facilities.

If one can develop film oneself, then that is an advantage of course.
