I hear you Bluto, but here's the thing > the bats in my fish photo camera might only take 20 or 30 shots on a GREAT day of fishing. So how long the bats last on a single trip is not important.

It's all about how long they last sitting in the camera, or camera bag, without being recharged. Sure, I can carry a spare proprietary bat... or 6 of them {if I wanted to spend that much $} but if the bats that are in the camera, have went dead from sitting, chances are good all the back ups will be dead too.

I KNOW my old school alkaline AA backups will not be dead, even if the NiMH bats in my camera are.

Awesome fish picture.

I certainly would not disagree that AA's have some advantages for something that you just leave in your boat - you can buy extras at any gas station, and they last like decades before self-discharging.

I would just point out that modern lith-ion batteries, and the "low self-discharge" nimh AA batteries won't go dead anywhere near as fast from just sitting around as the older nimh batteries. They usually retain over the majority of their charge when just sitting for a year, and if you only need 20-30 shots per battery I bet you could get that after they've been sitting around for 2-3 years.

This doesn't necessarily apply to a boat where you apparently have plenty of room for spare batteries, but I use rechargeables for everything where I don't have room for spare batteries, because I don't have to wonder if the battery is still good - if there's any doubt at all, I just replace it with a charged pair off the charger and throw the "potentially low" batteries back on the charger, no wondering if I should replace the batter or not (specifically I do this for the rear blinky lights on my bikes).

That being said - that is one huge fish. hehe
