The Canon cord works because it has contacts in the right places, so it passes all the info between the flash and body. For example, a Canon flash will only work as a manual flash, no TTL is possible.

I was hoping that Metz would release a Fuji adapter, and wrote the distributor asking if one was in the works. I got a negative reply—but I wonder if he got enough requests it might become more likely.

In any case, the adapter would have to be specifically tuned to the electronics in the camera. As far as I know, the re-branded Fuji flashes are all modified so that they function as TTL units.
