When 1D II needs service, What to do?

I've been wanting to buy a 1D II just to try the 1D series cameras out. I've heard once I try one I'll fall in love with the 1D cameras. I've also heard that the 1D II is out of service now and Canon isn't selling parts to third party camera repair shops. Is this true?
Is it just a throw-away camera now, since it went out of service and third party repair shops can't work on it?
What does this mean for used Canon camera prices?
I've seen a few threads where these guys were mentioned, I'd call them and talk to the horse's mouth, so to speak: http://www.midstatecamerarepair.com/
fortunately mine hasn't needed repair yet, my favorite camera, considering picking up a second or even a 1D from keh. I shoot mainly daylight sports but am sick of having an XXD body as the second camera
