X-Pro 1 RAW Processed in Silkypix: step-by-step with screenshots

It's relatively easy to work with Silkypix, especially once you realise that you work through the tools from top to bottom, and from left to right. Very un-oriental, but very effective!

Here is an original OOC JPEG from dpreview's X-Pro 1 review sample pages:

...followed by the matching RAW after processing in Silkypix, as bundled with the X-Pro 1, where it is called Raw File Converter EX.

The RFC output does not completely match the OOC JPEG, which benefits from lowlight expansion in DR400 which is not carried over into the RAW image. If we use the latest DSP5 version of Silkypix we can duplicate and even improve on the "lifted" lowlights in the original JPEG image. However here is how you get to the RAW-processed image above using RFC.

1) Open the RAW image in RFC.

2) Turn on the histogram - the second tool icon along the bottom of the frame on the left hand side - and position it in a convenient spot. You can extend its edges (thus increasing its size) in any direction for extra clarity.

(If you have not yet tried Silkypix there is a simplified, text-only tutorial in this forum under my name, or available via the link in my signature.)

Each step will now be posted with a unique title as a reply to this message.
