The GXR Anachronism? A Contrarian Review

Don't get me wrong, I really tried to love the GXR and was so excited at first.

But having recently worked with the Oly OM-D E-M5 and the Canon 5D3 the GXR with A12 modules was like jumping into cold water.

To me, in a way, the whole concept of the GXR contradicts progress and technological advancements.

The system is promising, but kind of stuck with last generation technology -- or you buy new modules, a.k.a. new sensors, lenses and image processing engines, over and over again. But then again, the A12 still have the old Sony sensor.

For what it's worth, here are my GXR impressions. Don't shoot the messenger, but I expected more:

It's a great backup system if you own Leica M glass.

For the fraction of the price of a Leica M body your M glass gets new "functionalities," just to mention live view or focus assist.

But another camera maker cannot be the raison d'être of the GXR...

Am also not so convinced about the system's future.

Still, the GXR churns out nice images. The competition though is way ahead.
