He seems to be claiming that even the GG-2 works fine and the GG-1 would be "too thin to be effective".

I think you might get a GG-2 just to try. Even if it vignettes on the 12mm, which is unlikely given Lau's experience, it should work on your 20mm quite well and perhaps beautify it 100X.

Probably the GG-1 will allow the use of a filter and the GG-2 will only allow that for the 20 and 25mm lenses.

I might get a GG-2 to try on the 25 myself. That rectangular monster shade is making my bag crowded.

Just want to report that I bought an original Contax GG-2 hood on ebay. Won't have it in my hand until the end of the month but will report back when I have had a chance to test it out on the 12.

Got my Contax GG-2 hood the other day, and as I hoped, it works perfectly on the 12/2. No vignetting unless you put a filter between the hood and the lens. Might possibly work with a very slim filter as well but I haven't had a chance to test that yet.

Aesthetically, the fit is also close to perfect in my opinion. If you look very carefully, the silver surface on the hood is slightly more yellowish and slightly less shiny than that on the lens but the difference is barely detectable.
