It's not THAT much bigger or heavier. If you want compact, you're looking at the wrong class of camera, anyway.
Bloated, fat and overlong is what Hollywood sequels usually end up as, and replace 'overlong' for 'too heavy' and you've got the 650D.
Hyperbole, much?
The XXXD line has finally lost all touch with its orginal raison d'etre, ie a lightweight value DSLR. Add on a 15-85 mm lens and it all adds up to 1.150 Kg which is far too heavy, thank you Canon.
Again, I think 'lost all touch' with its original reason for being is needlessly hyperbolic. 'Far too heavy'..? It's .1lb heavier than a T2i and lighter than a D5100. Also lighter than an A57.
Sony's NEX line-up offer far better size, weight, sensor size, and IQ ratios for my taste.
Sony's NEX is a mirrorless camera with MUCH different market and purpose. The UI and lack of external controls except for the pricey NEX-7 puts many people (myself included) off the entire line. The IQ of the NEX is clean-ish at high ISO, but I don't think the 18MP Canon sensor gives up anything to it in terms of DR, especially considering the resolution difference. A NEX certainly can't be used like a DSLR with OVF for fast AF and large buffer action shots (again, except the pricey 7, and even then it's not that fast, and the IQ at higher ISO leaves a lot to be desired).
And indeed given the 650D's USD 950 launch price the Sony's are far better value for money as well - USD 950 taking the 650D close to NEX-7 territory, and that's a no brainer for anyone!
The NEX-7 streets at $1350. $400 more is a big difference, even at this price point. The NEX-5N is no comparison in terms of control, lens selection or flexibility of accessories, etc.
I'll be selling my Canon kit and moving on. This is one sequel too many.
Y'know, no offense but this kind of 'see ya, I'm outta here because this model sucks' kiss-off is a phenomenon I've never understood with some forum folks. I sold my NX200 recently, but did I go on and on about how bad I thought it was and announce for all the world that I was departing the Samsung fold? Did I do that when I left the Panasonic or M4/3 groups? What good would that have served, other than to make a play for attention?
Weird. Have fun with your NEX. Good luck with that library and trying to use it like a DSLR.
