... Technique that is. Glad you know what works for you. With all due respect for your knowledge and skill, you might try understanding that others, even those not as skilled as you, have also discovered what works for them. And that may entail using something other than the center AF point.

For event photography where lighting often changes frequently, and the subject may be lit very differently from any other area you can focus and recompose on before the subject moves, or the lighting changes, shifting the AF point with a thumb is fast. As long as you can count on those AF points. Which is one of the reasons why we choose one camera over another.

I have been using this method since the days I had an EOS 3.
