where would I focus

dumokun80 if you are at f11 and its a wide lens like 30mm equiv, that is a small enough aperture to just focus say at the wall behind the girl (7-8 feet away from camera), and you should get everything in focus... of course its easier to get things farther than the focus point inside the DOF, than the things closer to you, so its important to check if the girl's face is in focus (she should be approx 4 feet away) when you aim for the wall; peaking/touch magnification of the nex is a big help.

rule of thumb of APS-C is at f/11 hyperfocal all common focal lengths works like a series of fractions - 24mm lens ( 0.33 = 8ft), 30mm (0.4 = 12ft), 35mm (0.5 = 17ft), 50mm (0.75 = 37ft), 70mm (1 = 70ft), 85mm (1.2 = 106ft) rising quickly.
