Tried inexpensive Bower flashes?

In looking thru B&H for inexpensive shoe mounted flash units, I saw that Bower makes several at $50 or less. They look good, and write-ups seem positive. But just how good are they? I'm looking for a no nonsense flash unit to just fasten and shoot. I have never used a shoe mounted flash, since shooting digital about 10 years ago. And I doubt I'll use it very much in the future. Yet there are a few times when it would be nice to have. So, just how "auto" are these Bower flashes? And would I be wasting my $50 to even be considering these units?

Keep in mind....I know nothing about how to use these at present. i shoot with a T1i.
