Nikon's official statement on the D800 AF issue

After speaking with Nikon engineers in great length, I am confident this is a feature that hasn't been fully developed prior to the release of the D800. They told me that the following feature is being incorporated in the next firmware release. I really like the new cutting edge in-camera defocusing control Nikon is implementing. If you remember the beautiful DC-Nikkor lenses and how well they work, you will be in love with the new defocus feature that will have a one button control allowing one to defocus while looking through the viewfinder. I'm still in disbelief that Nikon was able to design a fully working defocusing feature via software that rivals its optical counterpart. The D800 is evolving into a portrait shooter and wedding photographer's dream camera.
