Re: NX20 Freezing (not the lock up issue)
Thanks for keeping us informed.
It is hard to imagine that two cameras of the same model could perform so differently unless there was some physical/electrical defect with the first one or perhaps a defective battery.
The folllowing is off topic but may be relevant in relation to batteries. I recently ordered two rechargeable Cree led torches from China. These use 3.7 volt Li-Ion batteries. When they arrived, I put the battery in one to test it. It seemed to work ok, so after about 10 seconds use I took the battery out intending to charge it fully. It was too hot to handle and getting hotter. I thought it might catch fire or explode, so threw it outside on the ground.
After about 15 minutes, it had cooled enough to pick up. I tried it again but it did not work and would not accept charge. In fact the charger started to smoke too, so I discarded the battery. I then tried the battery that came with the second torch. It worked well in either torch and did not get hot at all. I am still using it.
I then ordered 4 spare batteries from a different Chinese supplier. One of those was also defective. It didn't get hot, just didn't work at all and would not accept charge. I think the original one that overheated must have developed an internal short. It was at least partly charged when it arrived, so the short must have been triggered by the pressure of the spring contacts when it was put in the torch.
Again, the above may not be relevant but if your battery was getting hot, the problem may have been either a fault in the camera causiing excess current or a problem with the battery such as an internal short in one of the cells. It would be interesting to hear whether your replacement camera and battery get hot at all.
