Re: NX20 Freezing (not the lock up issue)
I couldn't agree more, if I hadn't come here I wouldn't have known about the firmware update, and though I would have tried the things I did, I would have taken the camera back right off.
The issues seem to be settling down, which is ironic in that the replacement camera has arrived. Which of course means I have to flash the memory again, and get everything set up for a third time.
I just can't keep it on in between shooting, and under normal conditions I don't shoot as often back to back as I did... but if I'm doing a 15-21 shot HDR landscape Panorama then I don't the camera to crap out in the middle... and my NX11 (which was 1.1) never had a single issue. I took 380 pictures last Saturday and never had a single issue.
For me this issue could have been minimized by three things.
1. Samsung showing more support for the system in a logical way... ie $1000 prime lens (as good as they may be) for camera's that seem to be designed for JPG over RAW shooting in mind. And Reps that don't say... oh you don't need a 400mm Lens with the new mobile app and the NX20 you can just move the camera closer.. (that was actually said to me) (this works so as you are in a situation were you don't really need a 400mm) This left me really iffy on Samsung's future dedication.
2. Sales rep that are up to date on a camera that they "really like, and is an awesome little camera" As I said I flat out stated I wasn't comfortable about the performance of the camera, and he didn't say a word. (the new firmware was 5 days old at this point, so I kinda could understand) Mentioning the firmware or suggesting one of the multi-lens deals they had on other cameras, when I said I wasn't married to the system, instead of you don't need a DSLR. T3i, T4i, D3200, D5100 all had body, kit and 200-300mm zooms deals for the same price.
3. Producing a camera that doesn't border on frustrating to use in it's base form. I should have to be going through all this crap. The NX11 had a poor buffer and was complained about, the NX200 had a poor buffer and was complained about... instead of giving me cutesy menu's I don't need, why not give me enough buffer to get at least 2-3 seconds of shooting at 3fps. Or the ability focus on the next shot. Or not make me wise that Olympus and Panasonic were using a APS-C censor. (seriously I really with we could breed the OM-D with the NX-20.)
It would have also been much simpler if I hadn't traded in my NX11. Other then a second batter, I couldn't see a reason to have both. I'd just get my money back, but the new sensor is nice with noise, (compared to the NX11) and I love the new 18-55mm lens. Focusing inside 8cm is brilliant.
