I used the 18-135 in my last vacation in Japan and despite the reviews I think it is a very decent lens. WR is also a big plus on K5 giving some peace of mind.

One thing to consider, you can think of it as mostly a f4.5 lens. It is great for outdoors but you end up shooting very high iso indoors. You may want to have a faster wide angle prime for your dark indoor situation and use the 18-135 for the rest.

Good advice. But rather than a single WA prime, if I were you I'd buy the Tamron 18-50mm f2.8 for low-light use, such as indoor shooting as a companion for the 18-135. These two, along with the 55-300, are my standard kit for travel.

I love reading how others handle the same day to day issues I see.
My low cost fun travel solution is the 18-250 and the 40 limited.
Hi cost version DA*16-50 and the DA*55
Today the 18-135 would get the nod for its WR
