You could look for a used D90 or even D80 instead. You'd get a larger body with a larger viewfinder, flash commander (this could come in very handy for wedding stuff) and the option to autofocus with older lenses.

You wouldn't get the latest and greatest sensor, but using a DSLR is really more about using the camera and the options you get from that than having the newest available sensor which will be "outdated" in 6 months anyway.

Buying used would also lessen the loss of money if you later decide that you either don't want to use it, or you want to upgrade to something else.
