Will probably go for the 1.7 as best compromise as I can get one 2nd hand and can't find any TCIIIs 2nd hand, it's therefore half cost of the 2x and every penny counts at the moment

It's a tough call as there is really very little in it but if push came to shove, I would most likely opt for the 2x TCIII but that is probably only because it gives the extra range, as I think the IQ is basically on par. When I go on holidays and take the 70-200, I normally opt for the 1.4x TCII and 2x TCIII pairing, not the 1.7x TCII, but this is more to do with range than as I really think the IQ difference is too tough to make a call on.
