So it all boils down to an user error?

Actually, I looked at your photos again (I automatically assumed it was a SAB issue, my bad), and in the samples you posted the overexposed photo was at F2, but overexposed because you exceeded the max shutter speed limit of X100 at f2 aperture. When in A mode, you have to be careful about shutter speeds when wide open, you hit the limit pretty fast, and I think your ISO was 400, which makes matters worse . . .

Interesting.

I assumed it was the camera that had chosen the f/2 aperture (as oddball as it can be, after all it's a Fuji) inasmuch as the OP stated he had taken "these 2 shots straight after each other both in Auto mode." Now seeing the full exif ( http://regex.info/exif.cgi?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fmasters.galleries.dpreview.com.s3.amazonaws.com%2F2032826.jpg%3FAWSAccessKeyId%3D14Y3MT0G2J4Y72K3ZXR2%26Expires%3D1339781727%26Signature%3DHudnhbgc8%252f3A46V0kxwyiifKeHA%253d ), yup, it was really under A-prio, so no metering error here.

Also you made me learn that the X100 shutter is capable of 1/4000 sec... only at f/8 or smaller.
