Tokina 11-16 2.8 on Canon 60d - doing it wrong or expecting too much?

I've only had this lens for a day, but I wonder if I'm doing something wrong, or just expecting too much. It's my first wide angle lens and none of the pictures have been very sharp.

I purchased this lens after excellent results with a Tokina 35mm F2.8 Macro, it's takes great photos and I was happy with the very first shots. I know the Dpreview Galley upload won't show what I see, but I'm scratching my head based of the good reviews for this lens. The wide angle is nice, but the crops are disappointing, reminds me of my first digital camera, a 1MP Fuji.

I've not provided much to go on, but even testing hints would be helpful to me.

Tripod used for sample.

Thank you,
