If a 17" laptop is big and bulky, how much bulkier would it be to carry around a 15 and a bigger monitor. You can buy a PC monitor for cheap but a mac monitor is still expensive.

The 27-inch Apple Cinema Display (IPS display, LED-backlit, 2560 x 1440 pixels) costs about $1000, but so does the Dell Ultrasharp U2711 (IPS display, fluorescent backlight, 2560 x 1440 pixels). The 27-inch Apple Thunderbolt Display is basically a Thunderbolt version of the 27-inch Cinema Display, with a built-in docking base, for the same price.

So much for Mac monitors being "expensive". Quality monitors are more expensive than cheap monitors, but that has little to do with Mac vs. PC.

And, of course, if you're looking for something higher-end, lower-end, or just different than what Apple offers, you can attach "PC" monitors to Macs.
