Re: No viewfinder – No problem?

I started photography using a 35 mm camera, then when I could afford it a Leica. My method of shooting was to use a 35mm or 50mm lens. After a while I knew quite accurately the view that each encompassed. I would line up my shot mentally without using the camera. I would focus by feel, using the lever on Leica lenses to judge distance . Only then did I raise the camera to my eye to quickly frame the shot, and I would shoot without examining the details of the composition which I had already lined up mentally. I found this method quite accurate. I cropped very little. Of cause this cannot be done with a zoom lens unless you shoot at a fixed focal length. And of cause it takes a bit of practice. But once you get the hang of it, it works fine.

I find I can do the same lining up of the shot mentally without a viewfinder. I just do not depend upon the screen to line up my shot, only to frame it.
