On shooting on a cloudy day - I just recently read (in a book on macro photography) that you can get more natural color rendition of flowers (especially blues) on overcast days (it has something to do with the UV being filtered out, which your camera sensor is more sensitive to vs. your eyes), and also the contrast range is lower so the sensor can handle the range (which in bright sunlight it cannot capture the real range that your eye sees).
