50mm and 35mm wide open focus..

I can't remember why but I do recall reading a source explaining why focusing is much more difficult for camera and photographer wide open, over and above the logical shallow depth of field. One thing I can recommend you is to shoot with all focus points active when at f1.4 to f2.0, even then focus can be missed; this is true for my Sigma 50mm f1.4, Canon 50mm f1.8 mk l, and Canon 35mm f2.0.

Because of the crop factor, you would be better served with the Canon 35mm f2.0 but I have used the 50mm f1.8 lots, more than I thought I would (don't like to bring the Sigma along, too heavy over the course of a day) for travel shots, good for heavily over cast days.
