First outing D800--a walk in the park (birds et al.)

A quick walk in the park with the D800 left me quite happy.

All of these except the cat were handheld with the 70-200VRI and the TCE-2III which has lately been my go-to walk around combo for birding (when I can't bring the tripod or 200-400vr).

You can get sharp shots, handheld, at low shutter speeds:

The color is fantastic! And I think my D300s would have blown out the yellows in this one.

The details! This is DX and then cropped about 70%.

Ok, not in the park, but the obligatory cat--only included to show a high ISO shot. This was in a room which was quite dark. Nikon 24-120VR F4

This is just my first outing and hopefully next weekend I can get out to do some more serious bird photography. But so far the D800 has lived up to my expectations--and allayed some fears regarding handheld birding and wildlife shots.
