Since JPEGs have gotten to be so good in recent cameras, I don't use raw unless it is consistently obvious that I can get better results with raw than with JPEGs and, of course, I always post-process my JPEGs to get the best from them too.

I agree, however I found out, quite by accident, that there is a difference in the field of view of the Raw and Jpeg files, the Raw including quite a bit more than the jpeg, perhaps extending the view to 22 deg, not too sure about that extent though.

I have been told by quite a few people, that this additional area allows for software distortion control in the jpeg, something which you will have to do yourself in raw. Now I may not be as picky as others but I have a hard time finding the distortion unless there is something with a straight line on the edges and even then I find it acceptable.

The other thing that I have noticed is that the colours are different in the raw and jpeg versions, one is warmer than the other, I haven't got them in front of me at the moment so I can't remember which but I did think the tone of the warmer one was nicer.

My main reason for taking both raw and jpeg is that I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Law and the raw is more of a back up than anything else even though it does slow up the camera a bit while it writes the raw file.
