yes, if you used a lens with an inferior coating it would be far more pronounced.

generally speaking it's unwise to shoot directly into the sun, because you run the risk of ghosting, choma and a number of other aberrations that you likely won't want.

more-over, this is the reason why they make lens hoods. often you may need to cup your hand outside of the frame to add additional shading, if shooting in that direct of light.
