this week's birds [8 imgs]

I didn't find any new or unusual birds this week, so I focused on form and composition with the K5+DA*300 and took out my TV85 to get more practice using it with the K5.
C&C welcome.

Cooper's Hawk, K5+DA*300, shot in very dark conditions: TAv, f/4, 1/200 sec., ISO 6400

Green Heron silhouette, K5+DA*300, TAv, f/4.5, 1/1600 sec, ISO 80

Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, K5+DA*300, TAv, f/5.6, 1/2000 sec, ISO640

Yellow-crowned Night Heron, K5+DA*300, TAv, f/4.5, 1/320 sec, ISO 160

The remaining shots were taken with my K5+TV85, a 600mm f/7 telescope. I shot in manual mode, set IS0 to 400, used the green button for initial setting, but I increased shutter speed a little to make sure I didn't blow out highlights, especially with the white egrets.

Lonely Cardinal. This Cardinal was very far away, so I used it as a test of resolution for this scope.

Egrets fishing at the spillway after a big rain.

Because I was so close, I wish I had brought my 0.8x FF/FF to use on these Great Egret portraits. These shots were barely cropped and then down-sized for the web.

Great Egret: Cause and Effect (cropped to 2500x4000, then downsized)

Great Egret: Contemplation (cropped to 2880x3600, then downsized)

I really like the textures I'm getting with the TV85. Hopefully the promised 560mm lens will have optics at least as good as the TV85+0.8x FF/FF combo. If so, they will have a winner IMHO.
