I agree that manual focusing is a pain. I was able to do well enough with my E-P1 using exposure compensation in aperture priority mode. I think it was about -1.0 or -0.7 to deblur Venus and the edge of the solar disk.

Definitely needed a tripod using a 500mm/5.6 mirror lens w/ 1.5x teleconverter (2x filled the view a bit too tightly, and probably the 500mm alone would have been better to reduce time readjusting position and remove a bit of looseness from the setup).

Photos were not best, but even the E-P1's much-derided viewscreen made it easy to show my children the beginning of the event (before New England's ubiquitous clouds took back control of the sky).
