I just acquired a used 550d last April and have shot 2 weddings with it. I also have 450D which I had owned since Dec '08. I have also shot with 1000D (1.5 years), 40D (a couple of company events) and 500D (1 week love-hate relationship before deciding on the 550D).
IQ aside, I noticed that the WB (especially AUTO WB) on 550d behave very much different than the 4 older bodies I mentioned. It's not that the 4 are exactly similar, but not much different that I have no issue shooting auto WB. However, with my 550D I never shoot in auto WB (indoor and outdoor) - seems very unreal to my liking - too warm/orangey in general. I shoot in JPEG - no more in RAW to save PP time.
My question: Is this typical WB behavior betrween 550d (or similar sensor bodies) in comparison to the bodies I mentioned? Or am I getting a 'digitally deteriorated' WB 550d (?)? Otherwise, the 550d works perfectly fine.
I have a 450D so I'm quite aware of how AWB can sometimes be too cool when shooting in daylight.
You can do a WB shift in your camera for Jpegs. In the menu there is an option for WB shift. Perhaps try shifting the WB one or two notches to blue.
