Ouestion about Wide angle lenses

This might be a strange question, but its been bothering me for some time.

I shoot with a Nikon D5100, and i seem to have a problem with ultra wide angle lenses.

I have noticed that i always have soft areas in the images whenever i use lenses such as the Nikkor 10-24, or Sigma 10-20

This usually occurs in the bottom left and right side of the image

Normally shoot landscapes at 10mm at f8-f13 at infinity, in bright sunlight, so the entire image "should" be sharp and consistent?

I initially thought it might be a lens issue, but i have had the same problem with the Nikon 10-24, Sigma 10-20, and 8-16, and these lenses are known for their sharpness and i doubt that i could have used 3 bad samples.

These issues seem to disapear after 14mm and the images appear sharp through out.

So my question is, what am i doing wrong?
This issue only happens with wide angle lenses, all my other lenses work great.
Is it an issue with my technique?
Do i have a bad focusing system on my Nikon 5100?
