Sigma 150/2.8 OS Macro - no luck

I ordered the Sigma 150/2.8 OS to extend my Nikon 28-50-85mm prime series with a macro lens with good working distance. Here a very brief "micro review" of the Sigma (maybe a bad copy):

  • excellent and beautiful build quality

  • fast autofocus for such a lens

  • Pretty soft and low contrast wide open

  • My Tamron 70-300 VC zoom at 150mm is sharper in the center at overlapping apertures

  • Precise manual focus very difficult (focus ring travel too short)

  • My first and only lens where contrast detect autofocus does not consistently work accurately with the D800

  • Phase detect AF also inaccurate (can possibly be fixed by microadjust)

  • Image stablizer less efficient that Tamron 70-300

So, the Sigma is on it's way back and I ordered a Tamron 180/3.5 macro instead...

Nikon D800
