35mm Slide Digitizing with the Canon SX40

Technique works well with G-series cameras too

I don't have close-up adapters, but constructed a back-lit fixture to hold the slide at near minimum focus, approximately 1/2 inch in front of the lens front element. The G11 does produce some barrel distortion, but this can be corrected with DPP.

As pointed out, the process is faster and the quality better than using a flatbed scanner.

I find that exposure and white balance should be adjusted when taking each shot. RAW file format provides great latitude in post processing.
