Pana 35-100mm f2.8: will turn heads

The upcoming Olympus 35-100mm could make more photographers switch from Canon/Nikon to m4/3 than any other lens. Reason: size and weight.

The Panasonic 12-35mm gets amazing reviews, and is a third of the weight of the Panasonic/Canon 24-70mm f2.8 equivalents (300g vs 900g).

As for the 35-100mm, if it is a third (or even half) of the weight of the canon/nikon:
Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VRII: 1.54 kg
Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS II: 1.49 kg will make a HUGE positive impact on the travel weight, make the lens completely hand-handable for long periods of time, ease shoulder strain etc...

Most lenses are lighter in m4/3, but here the difference could be very significant. If the 35-100mm gets high reviews like the 12-35, expect many heads to turn.

As for DOF (and AF):

1. Some photographers often need very shallow DOF often, they'll stay with canon/nikon.

2. Some photographers need MORE DOF, switching makes sense.

3. Some photographers don't shoot that narrow a DOF often, don't care, or prefer the compromise of low weight/size. Switching makes sense.

4. Some photographers use that lens for high speed C-AF (sports), staying with canon/nikon pro cameras makes sense for that.
